Sorry for being so late today on posting this and...this month, for once in my life, I am not feeling that
insecure! About writing anyway. This is such an unusual way to feel, confident,
eager and happy with the flow, that I almost don’t believe it is real.
But it is and I am profoundly grateful. I am happy because writing is such a
vulnerable way to try to live. It wouldn’t seem like it because we are mostly
alone while we create, but if we want to be read and have readers return we
must write what they want to read. And we
must convince them that they do, in fact, want to read what we write, and so we
must put ourselves out there and walk the wire.
Hard though this is (because I find this very hard to do),
it is now a fact of a writer’s life. A fact we must embrace and promote.
On that front I can’t claim to not feel insecure. Wish I
could. All I can to is my best to walk the wire with grace, even if all the
while I’m hoping no one will shake me off and make me regret trying.

Woohoo!! Those, to me, are the best kind of IWSG posts...the ones where we're -not- feeling insecure :)
ReplyDeleteI agree and have been impressed with how many I've run across today on IWSG! This is a good thing!
DeleteDear Lisa,
ReplyDeleteAnd apologies for not being around much lately. I was well overdue for a visit to your lovely site.
Continue to let those words dance as your writing spirit, your writing passion grows ever stronger. The reader who feels part of the story is what I strive for. An intimate conversation. Just me and the reader.
Of course, "IWSG" aka "I Was Seeking Gary". Yep, then I woke up.
Fulfilling writing, your way,
Gary
Gary, you are ALWAYS welcome here, whenever that may be. And I really do like your version of IWSG! I'm with you on the intimate conversation with a reader. It is for this that I strive. I write very character driven novels and so hope readers find "my" characters interesting and unforgettable... Thanks for dropping by. I'm always happy to "read" your words...
DeleteThe promoting thing causes anxiety for most authors! I don't know many who like to toot their own horn.
ReplyDeleteSo true, and helps sometimes when I feel most alone in trying to "re-invent" the wheel!
DeleteHi and welcome to IWSG! It's hard to put yourself out there and be sociable and connect when your inclination is to be in a little room writing. :)

So very true and thanks so much for dropping by Laura!
DeleteAh, I'm glad you feel so good about writing these days.
ReplyDeleteYes, an unusual state of affairs. Hope it lasts awhile! Thanks for commenting...
DeleteI think promotion is the hardest part!
ReplyDeleteYou and me both Lara!!!
DeleteAgree with Alex, I think it is something most struggle with - although I haven't had the opportunity to blow my own trumpet yet where a book is concerned! Glad your writing is not making you insecure at the moment that is brilliant. Keep on doing what you are doing. Take care and thanks for the visit to my blog.

DeleteHi Lisa,
ReplyDeleteNice to read you and thanks for stopping by my little nut tree...
I enjoyed reading your post and will check out your book too! I like how you have it so readily accesible to your bog readers.
Warmly,
~Just Jill
Hey Jill, thanks to you for dropping by as well! The name of your blog brought back childhood memories...
DeleteHi Lisa.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the boost of inspiration. It's great to stumble across a "secure" IWSG post.
Walk the wire with grace. That is sound advice.
Writer In Transit
It's the feeling that we all strive for. Thanks for letting us know that through hard work, and determination we may come closer to achieving that goal.
